  1. Hi Michele...a tradition of ours is that we all get to hang a new decoration on the tree every year whether it's a homemade one or a bought one....Great prize Michele....I would love to win that Christmas Story book by Anni...thanks for hosting this wonderful giveaway xoxox

  2. What an exciting time. For me its all about making new traditions. If I am at Mum's then the tradition is for all the decorations must be in the same places as they were when we were kids.

  3. I have made my Christmas pudding today. My mother in law died the year we got married (27 years ago) and she had always made the Christmas pudding in the family( and her mother before that). So it was my job to take over the making of the pudding and the pudding is loved by my side of the family as well. It was my husband's grandma's recipe and she came to Australia from the UK after she got married. The story goes that she was a tutor in a large home in the UK and was friends with the cook of the house. This is the cook's pudding recipe that she has made ever since, and followed by my mother in law, and now I make it. My mother in law always aimed to make it in October, but I am rather late this year!

  4. Our tradition is to play boardgames on christmas day with friends and family, that is a wonderful time each year.
Thanks for the great give away, thats amazing !!

  5. We always have two celebrations, one on christmas eve and one christmas day. On Christmas eve we have a ham dinner and the kids could open one present that night. It was the present that they bought for each other. This way they learned about giving and receiving and it didn't get lost in the christmas day presents.

  6. We always travel to my Grandads the weekend before xmas and all the Aunties, Uncle and cousins gather for lunch. Then a some time thru the day my grandad dresses up and he and my nana do a small show for the Grandchildren and great Grandchildren before they hand out the pressies. It is so funny-my grandad was a fairy last year-my boys where crying with laugher (they are 17 and 15). Can't wait to see what he is this year! My grandad is 85.

  7. I started this tradition when my boys were very young. We always put out the decorations they made at playgroup, kinder and school. We also put the Christmas tree up on the 1st December, although I don't know what happened this year. We only put it up yesterday!

  8. I always make sure any of the children's decorations are in full view. My children are now 31 & 32 & I have grandchildren who are just starting to make things so hopefully they'll make something for Grandma to add to the collection. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway. lyn.robyn.smith@gmail.com

  9. My family has started getting together before Christmas Day, so now I need to create my own traditions, haven't got too far yet, since the house I am renting is up for sale so this year not even the decorations will be put up, but I love to think of what I might do, and reading other people's traditions has been lovely. Thanks so much Michele :)

Of course our family always have a Christmas tree, but one of the Christmas traditions in Russia is to cook Olivier salad (also known and Russian potato salad) :)

  14. I think my favorite is that each year my children receive a new ornament. It is usually something that significant. Sometimes I buy them and other times I make them. for example, this year my son is getting a French horn ornament as he excelled at playing this year, my other is getting a kayak ornament because he is saving to buy one.

  34. On Christmas Eve, we always go to the service at my church and have a small family dinner before the big dinner with our whole family on Christmas Day. Before we go to bed, we open up one present each and put on our holiday pajamas to sleep in!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It is our tradition to open stockings first in the morning and savour them, then eat breakfast, put on the turkey and only then do we open the presents.

  36. When I was young, my extended family always got together for a family game night on Christmas Eve. Each child was allowed to open up one present at the party! Now that our extended family is too big, we can't have this party anymore. However, I plan to keep this tradition for my future family!

We eat hot chips on the beach, splash in the waves and watch the sun set before heading home to open a tin cracker with a small gift for the children. Then they go to bed and I think I will have an early night but never do.

  46. Greetings from Northern Saskatchewan CANADA! I love this time of year! I love the family and friends get-togethers, the laughs, the food, the fun. What I don't like is the "commercialization" of it all. People spend way to much on "buying". My mom and I have a great tradition we started almost 10 years ago that help with this! Our stocking to each other is everything we get free during the year. It is so much fun thinking of Christmas all year this way. We love it - it is so much fun collecting stuff all year. This year I have great things for mom. Two of my favorites are patterns I won from Gail Pan and The Wooden Bear! I would love to add this gift from you too! Thanks for the chance to win!

  47. Good morning from Idaho! We live in a ski resort community, and so every Christmas Eve our family goes to the ski mountain to watch the Torchlight Parade. Skiers carry large red torches as they wind their way down the hill. Christmas music plays in the background, there is hot chocolate and sugar cookies to be had, and then the parade is topped off with a fireworks display. If we moved away, we would surely miss this special part of the evening. (Love your site, btw! So fun to have Christmas all year long, as if should be!)

At my house it's just me and my spouse but we like to concentrate on enjoying the season to the fullest so we get our shopping finished early, put the tree and lights up before it gets too cold and dreary out, stock up on treats and program our digital calendars with all of the community Christmas celebrations, holidays shows downtown, and friend/family parties so we are organized (an have options.) Finally, we divide the Advent calendar (I fill the odd days for him and he does the evens for me) so we get a special treat every day in December.

  79. My favorite tradition is our Trim-the-Tree party that we hold the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. We put up our tree and enjoy orange danish rolls and hot apple cider before continuing with the decorating. It's become so well known that we do this that when we were visiting relatives in another state this Thanksgiving, they decided to put up their tree on Friday evening while we were there...and then brought out orange danish rolls for us! What a warm memory that was! And how very thoughtful!

  83. When my boys were just old enough to start to doubt Santa. We got in the car on Christmas Eve to go look at Christmas lights. I said I had left my purse in the house and ran in, took Santa gifts from the closet and put them under the tree. We went to look at the lights and when we got back my younger son breathed in awe, "Joel, there is a Santa, he came." From then on, we opened presents on Christmas Eve--we were at the beginning of Santa's route.

  87. A tradition that we have had for years now is to have our own small family Christmas on Christmas Eve, then on Christmas Day we head to my parent's house to get together with them and with my sister & her husband. When our girls were younger it was just too difficult to do everything in one day. They didn't mind since they felt like they get 2 Christmases that way! We still do it that way so that it can be a more relaxed celebration no matter where it's taking place. :)

  88. This is our 3rd year not celebrating with our families and it has been a huge adjustment to not be with the grandparents, aunts and uncles, ,cousins...We moved to the east coast of Canada 3 years ago; my parents, brother and his family moved to the west coast a few months later. For a family that is used to spending all the holidays together this is huge. We had to start new traditions...the favourite is drawing names on Boxing Day. Rather than buying gifts, you make a gift for the person that you picked. It is wonderful seeing the kids jump on board and how much thought they put into their gifts. My dad, brother, husband and nephew participate with as much excitement as the girls. They have learned how to sew, wood carve, do needlepoint and tie dye t-shirts! It is the gift under the tree that we look forward to the most to see what was made "just for me". Wishing you all a very merry Christmas!

  89. The traditon I love the best is 9 years old now. So it is kind a new tradition.Their is this gorgeous huge church in the city and every year they do this huge live outdoors Bethlehem villiage and they have all these buildings and barns and shops and tons of live animals and all the people are in costume yes it is the entire city of Bethlehem.. And the angels are out of this world they look so real with these huge magnificent feathered wings. It is done at night and it is a 1 mile long drive through and this will be our 9th Christmas. And of course the highlight is the baby jesus in the manger and yes tehy have a live baby and whomevers baby it is is Mary that year...
